Information about approach, goals, and curriculum.
Nicole Lukaris and I are excited to share our program for young people and their families. We give families a way to connect and empower their sons and daughters. Our vision is children growing into adults who not only tolerate, but have compassion for all faiths.
We pull from Earth-based practices calling on our work with Earth, Air, Fire, and Water, and the eight Norther European Pagan Sabbats. Please know that since the Sabbats easily connect with other faith practices, all are encouraged to join and connect with the work in their own unique Spirit.
We hope to guide secular and non-secular children into knowing their values and develop a character of compassion and strength. To trust themselves, even when they have challenges in their decisions. To have deep relationships with their spiritual allies, and empowered by their relationship with the Earth.
We look to start our first year working with people ranging in ages from 5-8 years old with a caretaker. Classes will meet roughly twice a month, with summer and winter breaks being held by larger events. Please visit the Calendar for dates and times. The cost is $10-$20 per class, and payments are in cash or check.
Eventually we will be offering classes that begin from birth (mostly working with caretakers) through adolescence (which may include caretaker involvement quarterly.) Sign up for our newsletter to stay connected as we make changes.
Our curriculum will focus on Spiritual development & protection that can be understood for each age group, developing deeper as they mature. The purpose is to provide the young person a template that allows them to connect with their individual expression of Spirit, while understanding there are universal truths of soveirgnty & compassion.
One tool for this work will be the sharing of world myths so that participants can be familiar with as many icons of spiritual expression as possible. Alongside we will include social & emotional development work that draws from Compassionate Communication, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and age-appropriate sex education.
Other material to be covered will include seasonal herbal knowledge to safely empower young people with their physical health. There is a right time and place for all medicine, and a most lacking place is a personal connection with how to heal our bodies.
Our intention is to create a space that, while supporting LGBTQ people, sees the spectrum of gender and sexual identities as normal states of being. We are deliberate in our awareness that the world creates an 'othering' environment often based on skin color, religion, gender, gender identity, and other social/economic factors. There is no place for this in The Heart & The Wheel.
We know that children do not prejudice people based on these aspects of a person. We will foster strong allies among those who will benefit from systems of oppression, and build up those who many experience undo hardship. This will be done through careful partnership and support from qualified members of our community who have the authority and voice to represent. This work will range from simple modeling to explicit discussion as maturity allows for these complex ideas.
The mission is for more adults who can create emotional security for themselves through relationships with their spirit to walk this world. The vision is to start a new cycle of humanity; the individual secure in themselves and able to aide those they can help.
